On board for health

HEALTHY living was the order of the day at Kilberry Valley Primary School last week.
The Go For Your Life bus visited the Hampton Park school last Thursday where it presented the Kids Go For Your Life award for the implementation of healthy practices in the school.
Health teacher Jacqui Joyce said some of the policies staff had put in place included only allowing water in classrooms as a drink for students, a 10am fruit break, a walking competition on Wednesdays, and providing equipment for students to use at recess and lunch times.
Ms Joyce said the students had responded well to the healthy initiatives and enjoyed the Healthy Living Day last week.
“I have kids all the time say look I’ve brought fruit today and they’re really excited to be making healthier choices,” Ms Joyce said.
One of the activities last week included a pedometer competition to see which classroom racked up the most steps.
Students have also designed their own Kilberry Valley Primary School health superhero and next year the winners’ entries will be turned into life-size puppets as a mascot for the school.
