Mural status for artwork

By Kara Irving
PREP student Hanna Selling was all smiles when she discovered her artwork would be transformed into a mural, promoting safe water use at the Mount Martha Treatment plant.
Along with three other students across the state, the Tooradin primary student will have her artwork displayed in a water-themed mural to be shown at the sewerage plant over the next 12 months.
Hanna was short-listed from her classmates as a prep finalist, before being chosen at the official launch held on Saturday 21 of November.
Majidina Imani Widodo from Minaret College in Springvale, Zoe White from St Joseph’s School in Cheltenham and Sadaf Omar from Hughesdale Primary School will also have their work displayed in the water safe mural.
As a part of National Water Week, students across all-year levels at Tooradin primary participated in a series of water saving activities to promote safe levels of water usage at school and home.
Such activities included the children selling shower timers and arranging for a showerhead exchange at their school. Local mural artist Tony Sowersby helped the students with their artwork throughout the course of the program. Mr Murray Goddard from South East Water applauded the students for promoting water saving messages in a unique and creative way.
This is the second year a Tooradin Primary student has won the competition.
