The Rotary Club of Cranbourne celebrated their golden anniversary having made valuable contributions to the community for 50 years.
The Rotary Club has spearheaded many projects and initiatives in the community including developing parks and playgrounds and helping to drive the fund-raising that enabled the construction of the original swimming pool in Cranbourne.
Members have replaced floors in public halls and Scout halls, replaced the roof of the public hall, and provided an ambulance for St John and equipment for local fire brigades, and of course cooked tens of thousands of sausages for a range of events and causes.
As well as aiding the upgrade and betterment of community facilities, the Rotary club has improved the lives of many of the residents of Cranbourne.
The club has helped individuals obtain special wheelchairs and constructed ramps for access so everyone can access community facilities.
They have sponsored young members of the community to attend Science Summer Schools, to participate in exchange programs to overseas countries and to attend personal development programs conducted by Rotary.
Never ones to shy away from a challenge, the Rotary Club of Cranbourne even built and then sold a house in Narre Warren South to donate $160,000 to The Alfred hospital for the purchase of a micro-dialysis unit for the neurosurgery department.
Club president Kathy Dunscombe said Rotary had given herself and many others and opportunity to make the world a better place.
“Rotary has provided me with a way of taking on projects and contributing to the community and to the world that I could never have dreamt of doing as an individual,” she said.
