NEUTRAL tones with splashes of colour and oversized ‘hatinators’ were the trends spotted at the weekend’s Myer Fashions on the Field at Cranbourne.
More than 100 fillies, including a handful of men, frocked and suited up for the event in the hope of taking home the winning title and a $6000 Myer gift card.
Minis were out for this racing season, with many entrants donning knee-length dresses.
The hatinator, a cross between a fascinator and a hat, dominated the headwear.
Splashes of colour brightened up the neutral shades, but the classic black and white combination still made an appearance, with the winner and third place getter opting for that look.
The spirits of entrants and onlookers were not dampened despite a heavy shower before the final, with a few of the 33 finalists taking shelter under the Myer umbrella.
The judges on the day were Country Racing Victoria’s fashion ambassador Sally- Anne Marshall, Myer milliner Melissa Jackson and stylist Anna Flanes-Boschen from Fendi Hairdressing in Brighton.
The judging criteria included individuality, creativity, being appropriately dressed for the occasion and incorporating fashion trends.
Myer Frankston store manager Colin Matchett said he was pleased so many people entered the event.
“The amount of time people go to for fashions on the field is fantastic. Fashions usually steal the show,” he said.
The first runner-up received a $2500 Myer gift card and the second runner-up scored a $900 gift card. All remaining finalists received a $20 gift card.
The winner was Michelle Harrington, first runner-up was Kate Schuster and second runner-up was Susan Nelson.
