Kids schooled by big fish

THE local fishing pond was a big hit with Blight Bight children during the school holidays.
Resident Bob Wray said since the boat ramp was completed at the foreshore about a month ago, children had been arming themselves with fishing rods and buckets in hopes of making a big catch.
“There were about 10 children every day at the jetty or at the pond near the foreshore during the school holidays,” he said.
“There is not a lot for children to do here – there is no football oval, bike track or cricket grounds – so to see them out fishing is fantastic. It gets them away from the television and computers.”
Mr Wray said he was pleased to see 21-month-old Micaela Rulla with a three-foot elephant fish she caught while out with her family recently.
The young fisher held onto the small whiting rod for an instant when she hooked the fish, and, with some help from her father, reeled it in.
“She was ecstatic,” Mr Wray said.
“It’s great to see people having fun here. We have a beautiful foreshore, a new boat ramp, and it’s just a perfect family-friendly place.”
Mr Wray said he hoped more people would take advantage of the foreshore in the coming months.
