Roof-top stand-off with police after altercation

By Victoria Stone-Meadows

A man had to be coaxed down from the roof of a petrol station on the corner of Hall Road and the Westernport Highway following a public family violence dispute.
Police were called to the petrol station just after 6.30am on Friday 27 January where, they said, the drug-affected man aged in his thirties had climbed onto the roof of the building.
It was believed the man and his partner began arguing in the McDonald’s restaurant across the road from the petrol station, then that dispute escalated to violence.
Police said the man left the restaurant and proceeded to damage his partner’s car before climbing into the roof of the petrol station and threatened to end his life by jumping from the building.
Police from Carrum Downs attended the incident and convinced the man to safely come down from the roof after almost an hour of negotiations.
Ambulance also attended the scene and took the man to hospital for medical assessment immediately following his decent from the rooftop.
Police said they would charge the man with criminal damage and family violence offences following the incident.
