Dogs taken at Pearcedale

By Victoria Stone-Meadows

THE City of Casey has confirmed 19 dogs were removed from a property in Pearcedale on Monday 21 November, but remained tight-lipped as to why.
Council officers raided the property and removed dogs of various breeds from the premises in what council described as “part of an ongoing investigation.”
While the council will not reveal why the dogs were removed from the property, they did confirm officers acted under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
“The investigation is ongoing and any further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation,” a spokesperson for City of Casey said.
“Council will be in a position to provide a further update following the completion of the investigation.”
At this stage City of Casey has not released where the dogs are being kept while they investigate, but the RSPCA said it had no involvement in this action.
This incident follows a number of animal cruelty actions taken in the southern reaches of Casey in the last few years.
On Friday 15 April 2016, RSPCA and Police officers searched a property in Blind Bight and found many dogs to be living in sub-standard conditions on the property.
Similarly in 2013, a man in Cannons Creek was handed a 10-year ban from owning more than two dogs after an unregistered puppy farm was discovered on his property.
Those who become aware of any actions that constitute animal cruelty can contact the Victorian RSPCA Inspectorate team on (03) 9224 222.
