HAMPTON Park Primary School students raised more than $200 and donated it to their local library last week.
The students presented their cheque of $231 to the Casey Cardinia Library Corporation chief executive Peter Carter at the Hampton Park Library on 21 July.
Junior school council co-ordinator Jenny Norman said the students often raised money for charities and overseas appeals, but wanted to support a local cause and thought the library was appropriate because so many students used its facilities.
“Money was raised through each grade contributing to our social service jars and the Junior School Council held a ‘come in your house team colours’ free dress day, where the students donated a gold coin.”
Casey councillor Shar Balmes, who attended the cheque presentation, said the students, teachers and school council should be congratulated for their donation.
“They should be commended for encouraging such selflessness and it’s a wonderful thing to see them contribute to their community,” Cr Balmes said.
Staff at the library said the money would be used to buy puppets and other resources for story-time sessions.
