Casey crime petition

CASEY Council has started its own petition in response to the region’s crime crisis.
The ‘Safer Casey’ campaign is the result of a recent special meeting held to help curb escalating home invasions, car thefts and carjackings.
The petition is set to go to every State and Federal Member of Parliament, calling for a number of measures to help reduce crime and improve community safety in Casey.
The meeting also resolved to fly the City of Casey flags upon all civic buildings owned by council at half-mast until action is taken.
“The escalating crime rate and recent proliferation of burglaries and home invasions in Casey and across the south east has sparked angst and concern in our city,” Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said.
“Council is calling for action including more police resources in Casey, for our police stations to remain open at all times, for a new police station to be constructed in the rapidly growing suburb of Clyde and a joint policing taskforce to combat violent street gangs.
“As a symbolic gesture of protest, City of Casey flags will be flown at half-mast until such a time that our state and federal leaders take decisive action to tackle the escalating crime in Casey and further protect our community.”
Residents can sign the Safer Casey petition at www.casey.vic.gov.au/safercasey, which transmits an email to every State and Federal Member of Parliament upon signing it.
