Second term at the helm

DEBBIE Kypraios this week became the first member of the Inner Wheel Club of Cranbourne to wear the president’s collar for a second time.
Ms Kypraios was inducted as the new president at the club’s 17th changeover dinner at Settlers Run Golf Club on Monday night.
Ms Kypraios was among the group of women who formed the club after an informal meeting 17 years ago.
She said it had been wonderful to witness the growth of the club, which now has 35 members, and said it was an energetic club.
“Cranbourne has always been a very enthusiastic group of girls. Enthusiasm creates action,” she said. “It’s an honour and a privilege to be asked again and I look forward with great anticipation for an exciting and prosperous year. And we are always looking for new members.”
Outgoing president Yvonne Bell said she had a wonderful year as president, which included many social activities, raising money for cord blood treatments and making quilts for children affected by the Black Saturday bushfires. She said the club raised more than $3000 for various charities.
Ms Bell said the quilts were “living history” and hoped in 100 years that history would continue and the quilts would still be on children’s beds.
She said members of the club were enthusiastic and fun-loving. “Best of all we’ve laughed, supported each other and grown together.”
President of the Rotary Club of Cranbourne Stan Bankes-Fay presented a cheque for $600 to the Inner Wheel club.
“The world is a better place because of ladies like you,” he said.
The theme for the year is ‘help bring hope’ and the committee for 2009/10 are: president, Debbie Kypraios; immediate past president, Yvonne Bell; vice-president, Marleen Ling; secretary, Kate Luxford; treasurer, Bev Roberts; historian, Pam Bankes-Fay; club correspondent, Marie Corrigan; international, Lorraine Bothwick; social convenor, Robyn Cotter; committee members, Merle Blundy and Merna Stella.
