Baby dies days after crash

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

AN unborn baby has died after its mother was involved in a car crash in Cranbourne.
The two-car collision occurred about 1.40pm on Monday 8 August on the South Gippsland Highway.
Police said the 25-year-old pregnant female driver was taken to hospital after the crash and as a result gave birth.
The child passed away in hospital last night, bringing the Victorian road toll to 181 lives lost.
The crash occurred when the pregnant woman was heading south near the Thompsons Road intersection, where she was struck by a second car exiting from a car park.
The driver of the second car was a 31-year-old female. She was uninjured in the crash.
In a report published by the News on Tuesday 9 August, police labelled the crash “low impact” and being investigated by the Major Collision Unit.
Southbound lanes on the South Gippsland Highway, Cranbourne were closed for about two hours on the Tuesday morning while police investigated the scene of the crash.
According to Ambulance Victoria, the mum-to-be was transferred to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
