Witnesses tell of horror

ORMOND Road residents this week recalled the horror of the most devastating scene they have ever witnessed.
The residents were among the first on the scene when a loud bang disturbed them about 1.30am Sunday morning.
Mark Penrose recalls running out of his house to inspect the damage. What he found was a shocking scene of carnage.
“There was a person wearing yellow shoes lying on the road that was obviously in a bit of trouble,” he said.
“It was devastating.”
Mr Penrose said the black car was “squashed” and immediately knew it was bad news. He went into the nearby service station and told staff to call the police. When Mr Penrose left the service station, more people had gathered at the scene. “The police were there within minutes,” he said.
Another Ormond Road resident Melissa Nathan said she was alarmed after she heard the “loud bang”. Ms Nathan said she saw smoke billowing out of one of the smashed cars.
“It was shocking. It was a bit of a fright for all of us,” she said.
“I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
