Proactive cops checkmate crook

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

AS VICTORIA braces to face a youth crime wave, police from Narre Warren have managed to beat one crook at his own game.
Detectives from Casey CIU noticed a stolen Ford Territory parked in Cody Avenue, Hampton Park, and used an unmarked police car to box in the crook.
Casey Detective Rob Clark said the investigators noticed a male enter the driver’s seat and then positioned the unmarked police car to the rear of the stolen Ford.
“The offender then reversed into the car and a second police car came and blocked the offender in,” Det Clark said.
“It was a very minor collision and the man was arrested and charged at the scene for theft of motor vehicle.”
The thief was caught on Saturday 23 July about 1.20pm, and he was bailed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court.
