Centre design up for discussion

CONSTRUCTION of a $6.6 million community centre and town square at Selandra Rise in Clyde North will start in early August, with works expected to be completed in October 2017.
City of Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said council would hold two community meetings next month to give residents the opportunity to view the design for the community precinct.
“This project will deliver a much-needed community facility and town square for the growing Clyde North community, providing space for community service organisations to deliver key services and for community groups to come together to participate and connect,” Cr Aziz said.
“Reflecting feedback received from residents during community consultation, the design of the community centre incorporates halls and meeting rooms of varying sizes, an ecologically sustainable design, large foyer, exhibition space, and a commercial kitchen.
“The town square will provide residents with an accessible and vibrant community precinct, creating connectivity between facilities and providing for a range of community activities, events and programs including an exciting public art collaboration with RMIT University.
“Council will host two community meetings on Thursday 18 August for residents to preview the precinct design, find out more about the project and have the opportunity to be involved in a naming competition for the new facility, so I encourage local residents to head along.”
Casey has contributed $4.1 million to the project drawn from rates and developer contributions, with the remaining $2.5 million for the integrated community centre funded by the State Government.
The meetings will be held at 4.30pm and 7pm at Selandra Community Place, 2 Forest Drive, Clyde North.
