STUDENTS at Cranbourne Secondary College swapped books for some practical lessons in life this week.
Yoga, massage, self defence, road safety, circus skills and first aid were just some of the classes offered to Year 10 students to promote health and well being as part of the school’s annual Youth Expo Week.
Year 10 coordinator Mal Burt said students were given the opportunity to nominate a range of teen issues they would like to know more about and arranged activities and guest speakers to cover those topics.
“The week is about giving students the opportunity to participate in activities they wouldn’t normally have the chance to,” he said.
Mr Burt said the expo looked at health, lifestyle and career issues through a holistic approach.
“The activities aim to promote a healthy lifestyle and give them the knowledge to make more informed decisions.
“Many students are now dealing with lifestyle changes they haven’t had to consider before so we want to give them more choices when it comes to things such as course career pathways and teenage issues.
“It’s about helping them to make better decisions, both in lifestyle and career,” he said.
Mr Burt said students were always very enthusiastic about the expo and organised much of the week themselves.
“It is largely driven by the students. They have been great and have put in a huge effort,” he said.
