SEVERAL alleged young offenders have been charged over the past week by a police crime team tackling gang-related burglaries and car thefts in Melbourne’s south east.
Two teenage males were arrested by Southern Metropolitan Regional Crime Team police over an alleged aggravated burglary at a house in Packard Street, Berwick, on 30 April.
They were arrested about 2.30am the next day after allegedly fleeing in a stolen vehicle in Hampton Park.
A 16-year-old Dandenong boy was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
An 18-year-old Hampton Park man was also charged with theft of motor vehicle in relation to the incident.
He was also charged with assault and attempted theft following an incident in Noble Park on 1 January, and remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
The crime team’s officers also arrested a 17-year-old Pakenham boy after a police pursuit on 2 May.
He was arrested at Dandenong railway station about 5.40pm, charged with theft of a vehicle and traffic offences including evading police, dangerous speeding and conduct endangering life.
The boy was also charged with two counts of aggravated burglary over incidents in East Brighton and Ormond on 23 April.
He faced an out-of-sessions court hearing on 2 May and was remanded to face a children’s court on 3 May.
The Southern Metropolitan Regional Crime Team, formerly known as Taskforce Tense, has made more than 70 arrests since November.
