Blue Light Disco rocks in awards

THE Cranbourne Blue Light Disco won a Highly Commended Certificate for providing young people with a chance to boogie and bop in a safe supportive environment.
The achievement was announced at the Casey Community Volunteer Awards special ceremony at Balla Balla Centre, Cranbourne East last week.
The disco is a drug, smoke and alcohol free event for youth in Grades 4 to 8. It is held every Saturday of the month in the early evening, and is voluntarily supported by local police, St John Ambulance and local businesses. It is operated on a cost-recovery basis, with any surplus money donated to organisations and individuals in need.
Awards were also given out to young volunteers under the age of 25, individuals, and groups or businesses that encourage volunteering and community participation.
Deputy mayor Daniel Mulino presented the awards.
“On behalf of the City of Casey I extend my thanks and appreciation to all of Casey’s volunteers for their continued efforts in making a difference to others in the community,” he said.
“Being nominated not only raises awareness of individual volunteering achievements, it highlights the accomplishments of the various community organisations in our City.
“I am confident the achievements of our local volunteers will inspire more people in the community who have been thinking of volunteering to give it a go.”
