The lights were installed at the corner of Clyde Five Ways Road and the South Gippsland Highway about four weeks ago, costing $625,000.
But John Goodrich, who has lived near the intersection for almost 40 years, said there was a collision at the intersection the first night the lights were turned on.
“The first night they had the lights up a car took out one of the light poles,” he said.
“It has lit it up for sure, but the main danger is during the day.”
When it was announced earlier in the year when the State Government would install the lights, Mr Goodrich said accidents would always happen so long as the intersection remained as it was.
A spokesperson for Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said there had been 10 casualty crashes at the intersection since 2002, with four occurring at night.
