Knife used in ‘soft target’ servo robbery

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

A MALE threatened a Tooradin petrol station attendant with a knife and escaped with a drawer full of cash.
The incident occurred about 5.50pm on Thursday 10 March at the United service station on the South Gippsland Highway.
Acting Senior Sergeant David Hewatt said the attendant was stocking the fridge when he observed the male walking through the store.
“He walked to the counter, holding a small knife and made threats to the attendant to open the register,” Act Sen Sgt Hewatt said.
The offender who was wearing a grey and black hooded jumper and torn shoes, grabbed the register drawer and fled the scene in a stolen car.
It is not known how much money was taken from the register.
No-one was injured in the armed robbery.
Act Sen Sgt Hewatt said Tooradin was normally quiet in regard to such attacks.
“I think because of Tooradin’s location being removed from central areas it is probably a soft target.”
