TOORADIN will soon be scattered with baits aimed at reducing the fox population, to protect the wildlife and livestock in the region.
The fox control program, a part of the Western Port Biosphere’s Growing Connections project, will begin in late March and run for a year.
Baits will be buried at a depth that other animals will not be able to smell, however the community is advised to keep dogs away from the baited areas.
The bid to protect livestock and wildlife will see 1080 baits laid from Dore Road and Muddy Gates Lane in the west, Manks Road to the north and Dalmore Road to the east.
Residents will receive letters, warning them of where and when the baits will be laid and advisory signs will be displayed throughout the targeted region.
To ensure the program is effective, some baits will be buried on private land, with the approval of the owners.
The baits will be closely monitored during the program.
