YOUNG victims of a senseless crime will be dressed to impress at their first footy game on Anzac weekend.
A fortnight ago, the News reported that three sets of jumpers were stolen from the Cranbourne Junior Football Club.
Last week, Casey Council donated $1000 to the club to purchase new jumpers, and the club’s sponsors Frenken Homes posted a $1000 reward for information leading to the offenders’ arrest.
“I think it is great that local council and local business are prepared to rally to the cause of our break-in,” Cranbourne Junior Football Club president Alan Courtney said.
“We are trying to provide a service to kids in the area, and it’s reassuring to know we have the support of local businesses.”
Frenken Homes director Jennie Watts said if the reward did not lead to an arrest, Frenken Homes would use the $1000 to purchase another set of jumpers.
“I think it was a malicious act on the footy club and we feel that, as sponsors of the club and members of the community, we should replace the jumpers,” she said.
“Sport is an important part of our community. It helps children develop, forms a mateship between them and keeps them off the streets.”
The first round of footy will begin Anzac weekend, and Mr Courtney said the players were ecstatic to play their first game dressed as a team. Anyone with information regarding the crime is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Gordon Hynd at Narre Warren Police Station on 9705 3111 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
