Rattling the tins for a worthy cause

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

THE healthcare system in Laos has been given a big injection of funds by young Cranbourne church-goers.
Young people who are part of the Mormon Church have given their time to participate in fund-raising bake sales, traffic light collecting, sausage sizzles and car washes to raise money for Interplast Australia.
After a year of volunteering their time, young Mormons from Cranbourne to Gippsland have raised more than $15,000.
The money will specifically be spent on plastic surgery for conditions such as cleft palate and burns as well as providing skills training for volunteer medical practitioners.
Around 100 young Mormons were involved in the year-long fund-raising and presented the cheque for $15,106 to Interplast Australia chief executive officer Prue Ingram on Friday 4 December.
Ms Ingram praised their efforts on the night, saying: “You are contributing just as much as any anaesthetist or surgeon”.
