MP for markings

HAMPTON Park road needs line markings to improve the safety of an intersection, according to South Eastern Metropolitan MP Inga Peulich.
Ms Peulich wrote to VicRoads requesting line markings be painted on Vanessa Drive to prevent people turning left into Pound Road from a right-hand lane.
She said clear markings were needed, especially because there were no markings on Vanessa Drive to indicate the turn was not allowed.
“I am also aware of that because of the numerous offences detected by Victoria Police,” she said.
“They requested infrastructure changes to the intersection but because of the pending redevelopment of the South Gippsland Highway no changes were initiated by VicRoads.”
She said VicRoads also needed to paint a straight and right-hand-turn lane for motorists travelling towards Hallam Road.
VicRoads regional director Steve Brown said VicRoads was investigating several options for the intersection of Pound Road and Vanessa Drive to try to help reduce congestion and improve access and safety.
In May 2008, the State Government announced $36.8 million was being set aside for the upgrade of Pound Road from the South Gippsland Freeway to the South Gippsland Highway.
An investigation into putting line markings on Vanessa Drive determined that there was not enough space to safely provide a second lane.
