PREPS at Hillcrest Christian College have buddied up with VCE students at Maranatha Christian School in a joint project for the betterment of both – a cubby house.
Built and designed by six VCAL students from the Officer school as a part of their VCE program, the play house has proved a favourite among the young pupils.
Prep co-ordinator at Hillcrest Joanna Wiggs said the construction venture was a great partnership between the schools to support learning and well-being of both age groups.
“As part of developing their competencies, the VCAL students had to build something to meet the requirements of a client,” Ms Wiggs said.
“I recognised an opportunity, and now the Preps have a wonderful backdrop for their social development through role play and the VCAL students have kept their ‘client’ very happy.”
The cubby was finished and ready to use on Thursday 12 and Ms Wiggs said it had been the centre of play as an ice cream shop at recess and lunch times ever since.
“Hillcrest gave Maranatha a basic design of what we would like and the VCAL students then used that to design and build the cubby – and the Preps love it,” she said.
