Funds look to the future

The City of Casey is big and only getting bigger so residents are being invited to have their say on where future infrastructure funds should be spent.
Throughout November and December the council will hold Building our Future community consultations which will centre on the council’s five year capital works program.
Casey Mayor Sam Aziz said the council was responding to a range of unprecedented challenges including population growth and next year’s rate capping.
“Casey is big and is growing fast with the city expected to be home to 490,000 residents by 2041.
“It is forecast that over 10 years, the impact of rate capping on Casey will be $150 million.
“That’s $150 million less council will have to deliver local parks, family and children’s centres and sporting facilities as residents move in,” Cr Aziz said.
The future projects up for discussion include the Autumn Place Family and Community Centre, Hunt Club Football and Cricket Recreation Facility, Glenelg Football and Cricket Recreation Facility and Casey Fields Soccer Facility.
Cr Aziz said it is imperative that community views help inform the council’s decision making.
“Council has some tough decisions to make and it’s essential the community is at the centre of the conversation,” he said.
