Walking the talk for cancer

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

SOMETIMES words aren’t enough.
Sometimes an action as ordinary as walking speaks volumes when it’s carried out as a symbol of solidarity.
Certainly, this is the case for the Narre-Cranbourne Relay For Life, which was held over the weekend for the fourth time since its inception in 2012.
People from throughout the local community, touched by cancer in some way, again banned together to raise money for the Cancer Council, and remind others they weren’t alone.
This year’s event was also extra special, with the original creator and chairperson of the event Nicole Ryan stepping down from the position.
Nicole signed up to the Casey Cardinia Relay about 12 years ago after her father, Clive, was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Not long after, Nicole then set up the Narre-Cranbourne Relay, and has seen this new event raise about $300,000 since it began four years ago.
So far the 2015 event has raised close to $60,000.
Donations are still being taken, and for those interested in contributing visit http://fundraising.cancer.org.au/site/TR/RelayforLife/CCVIC?fr_id=2173&pg=entry.
