Suburb to be named in Digger’s honour

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

THE MPA is one step closer to re-naming part of Clyde North to ‘McPherson’, in tribute to a WWI soldier who lived in the area.
In its most recent agenda the City of Casey has outlined plans to meet with the Metropolitan Planning Authority (MPA) to discuss the renaming.
It’s understood the MPA has written to council nominating ‘McPherson’ as the new name for the northern part of Clyde North.
The name ‘McPherson’ was suggested in tribute to an enlisted WWI soldier whose family lived in the Clyde region.
It also coincides with the Centenary Anzac commemorations running from 2014 to 2018.
Clyde North is part of the Balla Balla Ward, overseen by Cr Geoff Ablett.
Cr Ablett told Star News he wouldn’t object to the renaming in honour of a “WWI Digger from the area”.
