A CRANBOURNE woman who has started a Scrabble club wants to triple the club’s membership score.
Katie Rowe, 65, started the club late last year and said Scrabble was an excellent game for all ages to enjoy.
“I just love the challenge. It’s like a never-ending story. It keeps your mind busy and you are always learning new words,” she said.
Mrs Rowe said she had about five members that participated in the weekly games at the Cranbourne RSL, and wanted to see this number increase to about 15 or more.
Mrs Rowe moved to Cranbourne about two years ago. She plays in competitions and is ranked in the top 25 per cent of players in Australia.
But she said beginners were very welcome to join the club.
“The champion of Australia at the moment is a 17-year-old boy from Melbourne. So it really is for anyone.
“The club is for people who want to learn more about strategies, and also those who just want to have a social game.”
Mrs Rowe said she would help people enter Scrabble competitions if they were interested.
The Cranbourne Scrabble Club meets at the Cranbourne RSL each Monday night at 7pm. It costs $4 to play, to cover equipment. For more information contact Katie Rowe on 5995 9407.
