FISHERMEN across Casey are making their way to Tooradin to score themselves a catch.
Avid fisherman and co-owner of Pakenham’s Fishtales Bait and Tackle, Andrew Mostert praised the facilities at Tooradin and said it is a top spot for local fishing.
“For the land-based angler there are several jetties to fish from plus the whole area on the eastern side of the south Gippsland Highway called Sawtells Inlet.
There is a host of species that can be caught from these areas and some of which that we have caught include, trevally, flathead, whiting, mullet, bream elephant fish and estuary perch,” he said.
“For the boating angler the facilities at Tooradin are excellent.
“The boat launching facilities have not long been upgraded and the floating pontoon makes launching and recovering your boat very easy.
“There are also good fish cleaning facilities located near the boat ramp.”
Mr Mostert said fishing at Tooradin has improved drastically in the last two years, since commercial netting ceased in Western Port on 1 December 2007.
“I would have to say that the fishing in Westernport in the last six to 12 months has been the best that I have ever seen in the 35 years that I have been fishing in Western Port,” he said.
“The numbers and quality of fish has been amazing.”
