SEVENTY years after the end of World War II, students from Alkira Secondary College held a special ceremony this week to remember those who perished during the Holocaust.
It was the Cranbourne North school’s third annual Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony, held on Tuesday afternoon with special guests including child survivor Peter Gaspar, Tony Weldon from Courage to Care, and 25 students from Mount Scopus Memorial College.
This ceremony honoured the memory of the six million Jewish people who were killed during the Holocaust, 1.5 million of whom were children including many yet to be identified.
During the assembly, each guest, teacher and student was invited to light a candle to remember those who lost their lives.
News photographer STEWART CHAMBERS attended the ceremony.
