A MAN caught speeding at 103 km/h in a 60 km/h zone in Cranbourne told police he was running late for a friend’s funeral.
Police booked a 21-year-old man when he sped along Sladen Street in Cranbourne at 12.50pm on 7 January.
Constable Luke Anderton from Cranbourne police said the driver explained that he was speeding because he was running late for the funeral of a friend killed in a motor vehicle accident.
Const Anderton said police were appalled by the driver’s behaviour.
“We were shocked with the alleged high speed in a 60 km/h zone area,” Const Anderton said. “Police are working very hard to bring the road toll down and when we have people like this doing these kind of speeds on our roads, it is extremely disappointing.”
Police issued the man with an infringement notice, a $408 fine, loss of six demerit points and an immediate licence suspension for six months.
