YOUNG children in distressing situations can be comforted by bringing them in contact with trauma teddies.
A Lions Club initiative involves police officers handing out such teddies to children who have witnessed or have been part of a traumatic situation.
Members of the Crime Watch Committee of the Narre Warren Lions Club have this year started the initiative at the Narre Warren Police Station.
Narre Warren Lions Club president Mike Ferey said police would give the teddies to children at scenes such as car accidents or when they were found after being lost or face domestic violence.
“Lions clubs have been doing this throughout the state for some time and it is especially important in the lead up to Christmas,” Mr Ferey said.
He said a teddy bear would be of great comfort for young children who needed to be consoled.
