Nominations open for Aussie awards

NOMINATIONS are now open for next year’s Australia Day Awards.
Flinders MP Greg Hunt is calling for nominations for the categories of Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year (60 years and over), Young Australian of the Year (16 to 25 years) and Local Hero.
Mr Hunt said the awards presented an opportunity to recognise the outstanding contribution Australians make to their communities.
“I am proud and amazed at the determination and motivation shown by many Australians and particularly within the electorate of Flinders.
“The Australia Day Awards is a great opportunity to showcase the achievements of Australians who through initiative, hard work and persistence achieve extraordinary results,” he said.
The national award winners will be announced on Australia Day 2006 on the lawns of Parliament House, Canberra.
State and Territory winners will be announced later this year.
Nominations are being sought for Australians excelling in all fields, including arts, media and entertainment, business, charity, education, environment, indigenous/ethnic services, medicine/science, engineering/technology and sport.
Nominations close on 29 August and forms are available from the National Australia Day Council website at www.australianoftheyear .gov.au.
