Ablett’s goal is council seat

By Bridget Brady
The former VFL/AFL premiership player joins Ray Wilkinson as the two Balla Balla Ward candidates contesting the sole position for the ward.
“It’s time for teamwork,” Mr Ablett said.
The City of Casey this week sent postal votes out to residents for the election.
Mr Ablett, who played more than 200 games for Hawthorn, said councillors needed to put personal differences aside and focus on working for residents.
“Whether councillors are new or reappointed it (teamwork) has to happen.
“I think the City of Casey is run pretty well but eventually if you don’t work together you end up self-destructing.”
Mr Ablett has lived in the Balla Balla area for 23 years, is a teacher and the manager of the Cranbourne-based community radio station 3SER FM Casey Radio.
Mr Ablett said, if elected, some of his goals were to build an all-weather athletics facility at Casey Fields, use Casey Radio to promote community events and develop a fairer rates system for residents.
Mr Ablettt said he hoped to work closely with state and federal politicians to obtain “much needed” grants and support for community groups and projects.
“I think what has happened in Casey (council) has been well documented and all candidates see it as a chance for a new beginning.”
“I strongly believe I can bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to local government, and would be honoured to represent the people of Balla Balla on the City of Casey council.”
