IF THE first match at home is any indication, expect Endeavour Hills to rampage through the Victorian Women’s Football League following their massive 113-point win over Seaford.
From the first bounce, the Division-3 match belonged to the Falcons – who are out to make their home ground at Barry Simon Reserve an impenetrable fortress.
Outside of a consolation behind, the Tigers were no match for the high-flying Falcons who added their second win from two matches in the VWFL’s Division-3 competition.
Across all lines Endeavour Hills starred and it had plenty of reasons to push the boundaries in the first home game for the club.
“It was also the first time wearing the green and gold strip – making it doubly important for the Falcons to fly home to victory,” Haughton said.
“The Division-3 girls in particular were revved up – after wearing a clash jersey in the first round we really built this one up.
“First game at home, first in the proper colours – in the rooms before the match we didn’t need to talk to them much about motivation.
“The girls were ready to rock when they got out the door.”
Endeavour Hills established a strong-break with a five-goal opening term – spearheaded by full-forward Siona Pilkington who drilled three goals in the opening term on her way to seven for the match.
Set up by the fleet-footed midfielders Jess Wallace and captain Maria Pickering, the Falcons soared away at all breaks to finish up 16.14 (114) to 0.1 (1) by the final siren.
“It was pretty slick and the best thing was the girls were learning a new game-style,” Haughton said.
“They adapted and in the coaches’ box we saw a lot of that training coming out.”
Knocking in 28 goals in its first two outings, the Falcons have shown a hunger.
“We kick them from anywhere,” Haughton said.
“Our forwards are great, our centre players can run down and we’ve got goal kickers on the half-back flank and we’re pretty blessed.“Thought it looked amazing but we can improve – we’re certainly not at our peak yet.”
Haughton praised Pilkington – the Falcons’ forward focal point who clutched marks and kicked her goals from set shots and in open-play – as well as the skipper Pickering among others.
In an impressive day for the club the Falcons’ seconds also won, defeating Montmorency in a rescheduled East Division clash. They face Rosebud at home this Sunday from 2pm.
In other VWFL results, Cranbourne easily knocked off Bendigo – even with a huge road-trip to Kangaroo Flat – in a 40-point trouncing. Bianca Jakobsson (four goals) starred in the win alongside Rachael Hunt and Cara Moody.
It was a tougher outing for the Division 3 Eagles on Saturday with Kew proving too strong for the Eagles seconds in a 2.3 (15) to 8.13 (61) defeat.
