Anzac legacy handed over

Anzac100 Years 375x120

CRANBOURNE high school students took it upon themselves to organise and speak at an Anzac ceremony for Grade 6 primary school children.
Sixteen Year 11 Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) students from Alkira Secondary College ran the ceremony at Hillsmead Primary school on Monday 27 April.
The day is a part of the VCAL students course and is included in the ‘oracy for practical purposes’ outcome, VCAL co-ordinator Ms Mccallion said.
“It helps increase our students’ confidence to speak in public and their ability to make lasting relationships with a variety of people.”
Special guests included five war veterans, MPs Judith Graley and Jason Wood and the president of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Michael Newbond.
Ms Mccallion said the annual event was a great opportunity to develop a positive relationship between the two schools and for the VCE and Grade 6 students to show their respect.
“It is important for students to reflect upon and understand the sacrifice of those men and women who fought and are still fighting for their country, particularly at this century landmark,” Ms Mccallion said.
“It also allows our students to pass on the knowledge and understanding they have gained through working closely with veterans onto younger students,” she said.
