School gets staff and class boost

CRANBOURNE Secondary College is set to receive extra teaching staff and almost $500,000 for new classrooms under a State Government grant program.
The school is one of 70 across the state to share in more than $24 million in facilities funding through the Leading Schools Fund.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the college would be boosted by an extra three fulltime teachers and one parttime staff member for three years.
The school will also benefit from $486,000 to refurbish and redesign existing classrooms into four large learning areas.
“Emphasis will initially focus on the transformation of the year nine learning program to inform whole school instructional practice through team teaching, peer observation and coaching.
“Integration of indoor and outdoor learning environments and flexible ICT rich learning centres will enable students to negotiate their learning, work in teams and engage in a range of tasks within the same room,” he said.
Mr Perera said the Leading Schools Fund encouraged students to stay at school longer, target literacy and numeracy and boost student performance in senior years.
“We want schools to make learning more relevant, interesting and challenging for students,” he said.
