TOORADIN CFA Captain David Bullman has called for a speed limit reduction through the town centre after a car flipped during a collision last week.
It is believed the Toyota utility was attempting to cross the South Gippsland Highway from TooradinStation Road at about 5.15pm on Thursday 27 October when it collided with a Holden station wagon travelling north on the highway.
The ute flipped on its side on impact, coming to rest outside the Tooradin Hotel. Cranbourne Police Sergeant Ian Christensen said the driver of the ute, a Longwarry man, had been issued with an infringement notice for allegedly failing to give way.
No alcohol or speed were involved, he said.
The occupants of the station wagon, a Wonthaggi couple, were shaken but uninjured.
Tooradin CFA Captain David Bullman said the latest collision highlighted the need for a reduction inthe 80 kilometres per hour limit on the South Gippsland Highway. He said motorists had difficulty seeing clearly to cross the highway and feared the next collision could be much worse.
“I want to see it reduced to 60kph and all new signs erected at the intersection.
“The trouble is you just can’t see clearly enough either way to get across that intersection.
“We have trouble getting our CFA truck across.
“If something isn’t done soon someone will be seriously injured,” he said.
