Road upgrade fast-tracked

By BRIDGET SCOTT

MINISTER for Roads Luke Donnellan has announced that $500,000 for the duplication of Thompson’s Road will be fast- tracked so that planning can commence immediately.
The Narre Warrne North MP made this announcement after the Andrews Labor Government made a commitment to improve this road between East Link and Clyde Road in Cranbourne.
The upgrade is planned to improve road safety and ease congestion on the road which carries anywhere up to 24,000 vehicles each day. It’s expected this number will rise to 60,000 by the year 2030.
The planning of the duplication will also include further consideration of the removal of the level crossing, as well as environmental studies and traffic modelling.
This is expected to be completed within 12 months, and local residents and road users will have the chance to comment on proposed plans and attend consultation and information sessions.
State Labor Member for Narre Warren South Judith Graley said the government was dedicated to deliver on this promise.
“Our community relies upon this road, local families and businesses use it each and every day, yet the previous government refused to take action, refused to tackle the ever worsening congestion and lengthy travel times,” Ms Graley said.
“This upgrade will make a significant difference in the lives of many local residents, and I can assure them that we won’t waste a single second, we will get on with the job of upgrading our local roads and making them safer,” she said.
