That dirty word… ‘relegation’

CRANBOURNE BOWLS
WITH both teams losing on Saturday, Cranbourne Division 1 and Division 2 sides are both in danger of being relegated from each division unless they can win their remaining two games of the season. Next week Division 1 plays MCC away while Division 2 plays at home against Burden Park.
Meanwhile in Division 3, a good 27-shot win was had at home against Glen Waverley.
Division 4 had a narrow loss to Mulgrave and finals’ contender Division 7 had a walkover against Chadstone.
In midweek ladies’ pennant Cranbourne Division-1 side crushed Doncaster by 40 shots to remain on top of the ladder.
DIVISION 1
PETER Colthup and Graeme Wood were both called up to support skip Mark Bland getting the job done with a good eight-shot win against a very strong opposition. Sadly no further joy from the other three rinks all going down and recoding a 29-shot loss to finals’ contender Heathmont.
Results: Heathmont 95 d Cranbourne Division 1 66 (R. Travica 17/20, L. Quigg 15/21, M. Bland 25/17, S. Arthur 9/37).
DIVISION 2
CRANBOURNE RSL got the jump on Cranbourne and despite a desperate come back, the damage had already been done with a 29-shot loss on a disappointing day.
Results: Cranbourne RSL 90 d Cranbourne 61 (G. Farrington 18/21, M. Boltong 18/20, R. Reid 17/23, M. Stevens 8/26).
DIVISION 3
A 27-shot victory was a fantastic result for Cranbourne over Glen Waverley. Skip Sofio Raiti continued his good form with a 13-shot victory. Team-mate Frank Male tried to describe some of Sofio’s great shots, which seemed to defy logic and can only be put down as a strategy of enthusiastic good luck and skill. Skip John Mulder also enjoyed a good win with great support from his team of Wilson, Dunn and Griffiths.
Results: Cranbourne 87 (J. Mulder 24/11, M. Scotter 17/19, S. Raiti 27/14, P. De Lisle 19/16) d Glen Waverley 60.
DIVISION 4
SKIP John Gardner and his team of Sturdie, Warner and Scranton played well to record a seven-shot win but with the other rinks all having losses, the side ultimately went down to Mulgrave by 11 shots.
Results: Mulgrave 99 d Cranbourne 78 (C. Wright 16/21, J. Gardner 28/21, K. Bowler 16/31, D. O’Reilly 18/26).

The victory keeps Cranbourne ladies on top of the Division-1 ladder.
