Flashing lights for light globe conman

THE City of Casey is to alert residents to a conman who is using a light globe replacement scheme to gain access to their homes.
Councillor Amanda Stapledon has urged residents to be cautious following reports of a bogus door knocker.
The Mayfield Ward councillor raised a motion in urgent business at a council meeting on Tuesday 3 February asking that the council report the issue to police and issue a warning to local residents.
She also requested that the council refer the matter to the Department of Consumer Affairs Victoria.
Cr Stapledon said she had heard reports of a man who was knocking at homes around the Lyndhurst area claiming to be part of a light globe replacement scheme and asking to get access to their house to replace the bulbs.
Councillor Stapledon urged the council to report the issue to police as well as warn residents via a media release, post on Facebook and the council website.
She said she was not aware of anyone who had let the man through their doors but was afraid that it was a matter of time before elderly citizens allowed the conman to enter.
