CRANBOURNE BOWLS
PLAYING at home, Cranbourne put on a great display of bowls to defeat Glen Waverley in Division 1 metro bowls on Saturday.
Skip Ray Travica was in praise of his team and in particular Maree Taylor.
“Maree played incredible bowls today, defeating her opponent on 19 out of 21 ends which is an incredible feat at this level in Division 1 metro bowls.”
Also a great win by the Division 2 side that defeated Clayton away to win by four shots, and the Division 7 side that crushed Oakleigh at home by an amazing 57 shots.
Division 1
A seven-shot victory over Glen Waverley lifts Cranbourne from the bottom of the ladder to eighth spot.
Playing at home skip Ray Travica and his team of Taylor, Blyth and the return of Helle after injury recorded a great win by 10 shots, joined by skip Mark Bland and his team of Bentley, Reid, and Caddell by four shots.
Skip Bland was particularly pleased with the form of Steve “Crusty” Bentley.
“Crusty played his best game of the season today to help us get over the line for victory.”
Cranbourne Division (1) 83 d Glen Waverley (1) 76 (R. Travica 22/12, L. Quigg 20/25, M. Bland 21/17, and S. Arthur 20/22).
Division 2
Playing away at Clayton, skip Peter Colthup and his team of Stanley, Van Soest and Fulton finished strongly to record an eight-shot win for the rink and give Cranbourne victory by four shots on the day.
Club chief Ken Fulton went on to say: “We had our chances like last week but this time we went on to record a great win”. Cranbourne 83 d Clayton 79 (G. Hunt 16/21, M. Boltong 25/21, P. Colthup 26/18 and M. Stevens 16/19).
Division 3
Cranbourne played away at Mount Waverley and came up short by 17 shots with two rinks up and two rinks down. Skip Sofio Raiti and his team of Male, Croymans, and Kathy Dudink were the best rink on the day winning by six shots. Mount Waverley 81 d Cranbourne 64 (J. Mulder 11/22, M. Scotter 22/20, S. Raiti 20/14 and T. Whalley 11/25).
Division 4
A tight game at home against Dandenong RSL ended in a close loss of four shots with only the rink skipped by John Gardner and his team of Scranton, Warner and Skurrie enjoying a 12-shot win. Dandenong RSL 81 d Cranbourne 77 (C. Wright 16/24, J. Gardner 23/11, N. Fell 17/18 and S. De Piazza 21/28).
Division 7
A fantastic 57-shot win against Oakleigh with three rinks recording very strong wins puts the team second on the ladder. The biggest win was by the rink of Romejn, De Pradine, Moore and Hassett who won by 35 shots. After the game, all four players were praising the form of each team-mate in a game that they will remember for a very long time. Cranbourne 112 d Oakleigh 55 (R. Sorensen 17/23, D. Wright 29/14, B. Romejn 41/6 and R. Tormey 25/12).
Mid-Week Pennant Women
At home to Gen Waverley, Cranbourne could only gain one team winner.
C. Wright 24-13, F. Farrell 12-24, L. Whalley 10-19. Final Score 45-56.
Division 1 Open
Gerry Dudink’s team of Graeme Wood, John Stanley and David Wilson were the match winners for Cranbourne, against a very strong Cardinia Waters team, at home.
K. Fulton 15-16, M. Boltong 13-27, G. Dudink 35-13. Final Score 63-56
Division 2 Open
Cardinia Waters’ second team at home was too strong for Cranbourne.
K. Bowler’s team was the only team able to score a win.
B. Helle 9-40, I. Smith 17-24, K. Bowler 21-19. Final Score 47-83.
Division 5 Open
Cranbourne away was too good for Croydon, with S. De Piazza’s team winning the day for Cranbourne.
F. Male 16-17, S. De Piazza 21-13. Final Score 37-30.
