Casey athletes off to Springfield

CASEY farewelled its athletes as they headed off to Casey’s sister city, Springfield Ohio in the United States.
More than 34 of the athletes and officials competing in the James B Connolly Games received a special send off to mark the occasion.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall officially farewelled the group and commended everyone for their hard work over the past two years to bring this important sporting and cultural exchange to fruition.
“The organising committee, athletes, coaches, sponsors, officials and their families have all played an important part in this process,” she said.
The contingent includes young Casey athletes aged 16 to 18 years and each member has been matched with a host family in Springfield.
The City of Casey’s sister city link with Springfield Ohio was established by the former City of Berwick in 1985 and there have been a number of sporting and cultural exchanges including the 2004 James B Connolly Games and the 2000 and 2006 Edwin Flack Games held in Casey.
