CONSTRUCTION of a multi-million dollar facility planned for Lynbrook is well underway with the hope it will be opened early next year.
The $4.5 million Lynbrook Community Centre will provide a meeting place for local residents.
City of Casey mayor Mick Morland said this centre was underway with “the community in mind”.
“Through a series of community workshops, surveys and displays, the community provided their ideas about what might be offered at the community centre, as well as the different ways they might use space,” he said.
“The centre incorporates various sized halls, meeting and training rooms, a large decked area, foyer and exhibition space, commercial kitchen and consulting rooms.”
Council has formed a Community Reference Group to explore the development and operational requirements of the facility.
River Gum Ward councillor Damien Rosario said the centre would provide valuable space for the Lynbrook community and complement the existing facilities, services and shopping precinct in the town.
Fellow ward councillor Wayne Smith said “council is very excited about the potential for this centre to hold community events and activities.”
Earlier this year, council held a community meeting at the Lynbrook Family and Children’s Centre where the design of the new $4.5 million centre was launched.
