Clubber joy at night moves

– Glen Atwell
CASEY nightclubbers will carve up the dance floor this weekend after the announcement of extended Night Rider bus services to Cranbourne and Berwick.
Pub-goers sick of being stranded in the city on Saturday and Sunday nights will soon have the option to bus it back to south-eastern suburbs.
Local councillor and chair of Casey’s Night Time Entertainment Taskforce Lorraine Wreford welcomed the news, but urged the government to provide an express service from the city to Casey.
“I’ve lobbied hard and long, since 2004, for Nightrider services in Casey,” she said.
“Casey has a much bigger youth population than Dandenong, yet there is no dedicated service to the area.”
Cr Wreford questioned the potential effectiveness of the extension, which will see the Dandenong Night Rider continue on to Cranbourne and Berwick.
“The service to Dandenong is at capacity, extending that route to Cranbourne and Berwick is pointless,” she said.
“There’s not enough room, what we need is dedicated buses to Casey, travelling straight down the Monash Freeway.”
“The youth of Casey should be grateful, however, that the government has finally acknowledged they exist.”
The new services are expected to commence later this year.
