THE TOORADIN community has welcomed a change in the speed limit along a section of the South Gippsland Highway.
Member for Hastings Neale Burgess visited Tooradin on Tuesday, 7 October to announce the speed reduction between Dore Street and Rutters Park Reserve, Tooradin.
Mr Burgess said the change follows feedback from the community and will increase safety around the area. It will apply during certain times of the day.
“The speed limit change follows an extensive community consultation process, and will come into place along a 1.7 kilometre section of the South Gippsland Highway, between Dore Street and Rutters Park Reserve”, he said.
“The change will mean the current 80km/h limit through the town will be reduced to 60km/h between 7am-8pm daily.”
He added that it was pleasing to see the introduction of these new speed limits after the installation of new static and electronic signs.
“The change will mean that the people will be able to go about their business around the community in a safer environment, especially during peak travel times,” he said.
He said this lowered speed limit represents the desire of the local community.
“Gaining the views of the community and having a healthy discussion about what changes they wanted to see was a really important part of the project,” Mr Burgess said.
“It has been really pleasing to be able to deliver what the community have asked for, and I thank everyone for their input right throughout the process.”
He urged all road users in the area to take note of the changed speed limits and said the idea was to ensure anyone travelling in the area were doing so in the “safest environment possible.”
The $317,000 project is funded as part of the Better Roads Victoria fund.
