Crime fighters

I WRITE in response to a misleading letter from Nina Cooper (Socially Speaking, News, 11 September).
The Napthine State Government is dedicated to increasing public safety, an additional 1700 police officers are now on the beat meaning that more criminals are being arrested, leading to a safer Victoria.
Crime was rampant under Labor.
Under the Napthine Government’s tougher stand on crime, crime detection has increased by 10.9 per cent and tougher sentencing laws mean that when criminals are caught it’s not just a slap on the wrist.
Funding for the prevention of domestic violence has also increased along with a greater focus on community awareness.
Suspended sentences have been abolished and PSOs have been introduced to suburban railway stations including those across the City of Casey, making travel safer.
We have provided the largest crime fighting budget in history, with 12.8 per cent more police in the Southern Metropolitan Region which includes Casey.
The Napthine state coalition government is building a better, safer Victoria.
Inga Peulich,
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP.
