CRANBOURNE drivers could soon be under brakes if VicRoads approves the City of Casey’s plan to reduce the speed limit on a number of major roads.
Speed limits on Monahan’s Road, Camms Road and Central Parkway will be lowered from 60 km/h to 50 km/h under the proposal.
Mayfield Ward councillor Steve Beardon has spearheaded the campaign and won the support of his colleagues at the council meeting on Tuesday night. “A recent accident involving a six-year-old boy being knocked off his bike along Monahan’s Road was the motivation to tackle this issue again,” Cr Beardon said.
“Given that 50 km/h zones are standard throughout Endeavour Hills, I can’t see VicRoads objecting to the idea in Cranbourne.”
As reported in last week’s News, Cr Beardon wants the speed along High Street to be reduced from 60 km/h to 40 km/h, to encourage trucks to use the nearby Western Port Highway instead.
“Trying to cross High Street is like trying to cross the MCG,” he said.
VicRoads will assess the proposed speed reduction in the coming weeks.
