Now, it’s an above-ground pool

By Kelly Yates
CRANBOURNE’S Aquatic and Leisure Centre (CALC) is progressing on target and set to open in mid-2009.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall said the $37 million project was above ground now after nine months of intense work.
“The foundation works are completed and many of the centre’s exciting features are taking shape”.
The hydrotherapy pool and the excavation of the leisure water area are complete.
The construction of the 50m pool is half finished and works in the spa and sauna areas at the eastern side of the building are progressing.
The two million-litre water tank that was installed at the end of last year is now three quarters full.
CALC will have something for everyone, combining all the fun and excitement of waterslides, an interactive splash park, 50m lap pool, spa, sauna, steam room, child care facilities, café and a fully-equipped gymnasium.
Labelled as the most ambitious project ever undertaken by Casey Council, the facility is being lauded as the best of its kind in Australia with state-of-the-art environmental, energy and water initiatives included as part of its design.
