In safe hands

By BRIDGET COOK

CASEY’S southern fire brigades are on the hunt for more helping hands to keep the community safe.
CFA brigades at Clyde, Pearcedale, Warneet-Blind Bight, Tooradin and Devon Meadows are running a recruitment drive and urging more people to sign up and join their ranks.
The CFA wants to hear from people who want to give back to their local community or those who have spare time that could be put to better use.
CFA operations officer Greg Christison said brigades were seeking active men and women who could perform duties as daytime firefighters.
“There’s more to volunteering with CFA than just firefighting,” he said.
“Brigades need people who can assist with important community education programs, promotions and displays and fundraising activities.
“All CFA volunteers receive nationally-accredited training and develop skills that can be used outside CFA, including in the workplace or at home.
“Volunteer membership offers new members fresh challenges as well as a chance to meet new people and give something back to their local community.”
Over the coming weeks the brigades will be undertaking recruitment activities, including Information sessions on Tuesday 26 August. There will be a session at 1pm at Devon Meadows Fire Brigade and another at 7pm at Pearcedale Fire Brigade.
If you’re interested in joining the CFA or want more information call Jane Barber on 0419 872 117 or email j.barber@cfa.vic.gov.au.
